Fast-forward to today: the PSP will be officially dead and buried as of the end of this year, and it’s a memory of the last great hope of handheld entertainment before phones.

The hardware is fine for the most part, as long as you overlook the lack of secondary thumb-stick, but finding physical, undamaged PSP games is tricky. I am rarely one to say that something is not worth it, but I honestly don’t feel that a PSP in 2019 is a valid purchase.

Simply because the state of the art had advanced, which they had followed with the PlayStation Vita. They’d taken the PSP’s architecture as far as it could go, and game developers had squeezed as much performance out of it as they could. When one line rises, another must fall, and thus, the PSP was put out to pasture.

Sony should have made an upgraded PSP that allows players to remote play to all PS4 devices. Technically that is what the Vita is a remote play device for the PS4. The Vita is a better device, but the PSP was the better system. Definitely the PSP since it actually had a good game library.

There just wasn’t a big enough collection of must have games making it worth the price tag to buy a Vita. Especially if you already owned a Playstation. Plus, the Vita was discontinued in 2019. If the online market is still open and you want to play PS1 and PS2 games on the go I would say pick it up.
